A cozy, witchy Halloween charcuterie board for two featuring naturally dark foods like blackberries, black olives, dark chocolate, and black figs, arranged to look like little black cat faces. Perfect for a quiet night in with a movie and a blanket.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup pitted black olives (large, such as Lindsay or Divina)
  • 1 cup fresh blackberries
  • 4–5 fresh black figs, halved (or dried Mission figs)
  • 2 ounces dark chocolate (70% cacao or higher, broken into pieces)
  • 4–6 ounces Brie cheese (one small wheel)
  • 2 ounces Manchego cheese, sliced into thin triangles
  • 4–6 slices salami or prosciutto (preferably dark, peppered salami)
  • 10–12 black sesame crackers (or dark rye crackers, pumpernickel rounds)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2–3 sprigs fresh rosemary

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Ingredients (5 minutes): Take the brie out of the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for at least 20 minutes. Rinse the blackberries and figs, then pat them dry. Slice the figs in half lengthwise. Slice the manchego into thin triangles. Break the dark chocolate into small, irregular pieces. Slice about 6-8 black olives in half crosswise for ‘cat eyes.’ Leave the rest whole.
  2. Set the Stage (2 minutes): Place your board on a flat surface. Put small ramekins in three corners of the board—one for the honey, one for the whole black olives, and one for the dark chocolate pieces.
  3. Place the Cheese (3 minutes): Put the brie wheel in the center-left of the board. Arrange the manchego triangles in a fan pattern on the upper right side, with the points facing outward.
  4. Add the Salami (2 minutes): Fold each slice of salami or prosciutto into a loose ribbon or wave shape. Place them in a small cluster near the bottom of the board, opposite the brie.
  5. Scatter the Fruit (3 minutes): Sprinkle the blackberries around the brie and salami, filling in the gaps. Tuck the fig halves in between the manchego slices and near the edge of the board.
  6. Create the Cat Faces (4 minutes): Take the whole black olives and arrange them in small groups of three—two whole olives for the ‘ears’ and one halved olive for the ‘eyes.’ Place these little cat faces in empty spots on the board. Use kitchen tweezers for precise placement if available.
  7. Add the Crackers (2 minutes): Fan the black sesame crackers along the edges of the board, tucking them under the cheese and fruit slightly.
  8. Drizzle and Garnish (2 minutes): Drizzle a small ribbon of honey over the top of the brie and let it run down the sides. Place the rosemary sprigs around the board, tucking them under the cheese or between the fruit clusters.
  9. Final Check (1 minute): Step back and look at your board. Fill any bare spots with extra blackberries or a few more crackers. Ensure it looks balanced with a mix of colors and textures.

Notes

Let brie come to room temperature for at least 20 minutes before serving for best texture. For olive cat faces, slice the ‘eye’ olives so they have a flat bottom to prevent rolling. Nestle them between other ingredients to hold them in place. If making ahead, cover loosely with plastic wrap and refrigerate, but remove 20 minutes before serving. The board is forgiving and flexible—substitutions are easy.
