This cozy cranberry orange sauce with fresh ginger is a quick and easy recipe that turns a simple meal into a moment. It’s perfect for any occasion, from holiday feasts to quiet Tuesday nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz (340 g) fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon (about 15 g) fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest (from 1 medium orange)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients: Rinse cranberries, zest and juice the orange, peel and grate the ginger, measure sugar and water.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and water. Stir until sugar is mostly dissolved.
  3. Stir in orange zest and grated ginger. Cook for about 30 seconds, stirring constantly.
  4. Add cranberries, orange juice, and optional salt. Stir to combine.
  5. Increase heat to medium-high and bring to a full rolling boil.
  6. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer gently for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens and cranberries have broken down.
  7. Remove from heat and let cool for 10-15 minutes. Serve warm, at room temperature, or cold.

Notes

For a thicker sauce, simmer an extra 2 minutes. For a thinner sauce, stir in a tablespoon of water or orange juice. The sauce will thicken as it cools. Make ahead for best flavor.
