These easy mummy hot dogs are a fast, fun, and delicious Halloween treat made with just two ingredients: hot dogs and crescent roll dough. Ready in 20 minutes, they’re perfect for Halloween parties and kid-friendly cooking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 standard-size hot dogs (about 1.5 ounces each)
  • 1 can (8-count) crescent roll dough (e.g., Pillsbury Original Crescent Rolls)
  • Mustard (yellow or Dijon) for eyes (optional)
  • Ketchup for eyes (optional)
  • Candy eyes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Open the can of crescent rolls. Unroll the dough and separate it into the 8 pre-cut triangles along the perforated lines. Lay them flat on a cutting board.
  3. Cut each triangle lengthwise into 3 or 4 thin strips, about 1/2 inch wide. Ragged edges add to the mummy effect.
  4. Take one hot dog and start wrapping a dough strip around it, slightly overlapping as you go. Leave about 1 inch of exposed hot dog at one end for the face. Use 2 to 3 strips per hot dog, spacing them out to create mummy gaps.
  5. Place the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space between each one.
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the dough is golden brown and puffed. Check at 10 minutes; 11 minutes is often the sweet spot.
  7. Let them cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes. The dough firms up slightly as it cools.
  8. Add eyes using a squeeze bottle or toothpick: dab small dots of mustard or ketchup onto the exposed hot dog ends. If using candy eyes, press them gently into the warm dough.

Notes

Don’t over-wrap the hot dogs; 2-3 strips per hot dog is plenty to create the mummy effect. Leave extra room at the face end because the dough shrinks during baking. Use room temperature dough for easier wrapping. If dough strips start to unwrap during baking, use a toothpick to hold them in place (remove before serving). These are best served warm and fresh.
