A spooky, vibrant purple cold foam coffee made with real blueberries and simple ingredients. Ready in 5 minutes, it’s a fun and delicious Halloween treat or any morning you want to feel a little extra.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • Ice cubes (enough to fill your glass)
  • 1/2 cup cold heavy cream or full-fat oat milk (for dairy-free)
  • 1 tablespoon freeze-dried blueberries or blackberries, crushed into powder
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Make the Blueberry Powder: Place the freeze-dried blueberries in a small bowl. Use the back of a spoon or a mortar and pestle to crush them into a fine, dusty powder. Set aside.
  2. Brew and Cool Your Coffee: Brew your coffee and let it cool to room temperature. You can speed this up by pouring it over ice in a separate glass first.
  3. Whip the Cold Foam: In a separate bowl or your frother container, combine the cold heavy cream (or oat milk), vanilla extract, and maple syrup (if using). Froth using your handheld frother for 30-45 seconds, or until the mixture is thick and creamy and holds soft peaks.
  4. Add the Magic Color: Sprinkle the crushed blueberry powder over the top of the cold foam. Do not stir it in yet! Use a spoon to gently fold it into the foam just 2-3 times. You want a marbled, swirled effect.
  5. Assemble the Drink: Fill a tall glass with ice cubes. Pour the cooled coffee over the ice until the glass is about 3/4 full.
  6. Top with Foam: Gently spoon the marbled cold foam over the top of the coffee. Do not pour it—spooning it keeps the layer intact.
  7. Serve Immediately: Watch as the purple color slowly starts to bleed down into the dark coffee. Give it a gentle stir before drinking if you want the flavor mixed in, or sip it through the foam for a layered experience.

Notes

Use freeze-dried fruit for the most vibrant color; fresh or frozen berries will make the foam watery. The color fades after about 10 minutes, so serve immediately for best appearance. For a dairy-free version, use full-fat oat milk (Oatly Barista Edition recommended).
